Hope In the Night: AWF lights up Mayo Belwa community in Adamawa State.

As part of our ongoing commitment to empowering rural communities and enhancing daily livelihoods, the Alphonsus Williams Foundation (AWF) has successfully installed four (4) solar-powered street lights in strategic locations across the Mayo Belwa community.

This initiative is more than just an infrastructure project — it is a beacon of hope, safety, and opportunity. By lighting up the community, we’re making the environment safer for women, children, and youth and encouraging social and economic activity to thrive after dusk.

“For the first time in years, we can walk without fear at night. This is a blessing for our families,” says Kefas Yakubu, a resident of Belwa.

Before now, Belwa and surrounding communities were largely plunged into darkness after sunset, making residents easy targets for theft and other dangers. Children couldn’t read at night, and local vendors often packed up their stalls early, limiting income and education.

This project is just one piece of our broader mission to improve infrastructure in underserved areas across Nigeria. By addressing basic needs like lighting, clean water, and education, we’re creating an environment where developmental opportunities become accessible to all, especially the less privileged.

At AWF, we believe that real change starts with real action. We’re committed to scaling this initiative to more communities in need, and we call on partners, donors, and well-meaning individuals to join us in expanding this impact.

Let’s continue making a difference, one community at a time. Whether through donations, partnerships, or volunteering, your involvement could be the light someone is waiting for.
